The Senior Cloud Engineer(DBA) will be a member of the team responsible for supporting the Digital Excellence in Health cloud strategy and roadmap. Reporting to and working closely with the Manager, Platform and Cloud Operations, the Senior Cloud Engineer(DBA) is responsible for delivering on established cloud strategies to support business objectives and provide high levels of expertise and knowledge in cloud migrations of on-premises applications as well as digital transformation.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will work closely with other IT infrastructure specialists, Lead and Principal Cloud Engineers,  Enterprise Architects and Security to design and integrate cloud and on-premises services, enabling stable, efficient and secure operations in the cloud environment. This position will provide expertise and knowledge in Database migration  migration methodologies and techniques to migrate large scale enterprise applications and services.

The Senior Cloud Engineer(DBA) plays a key role in the Cloud and Platform Operations team for all cloud-oriented initiatives, working with other team members to provide the stable operation, availability, performance of Ontario Health’s cloud-based services, mentoring and coaching others in systems support activities and troubleshooting.  The Senior Cloud Engineer(DBA) will coordinate and implement detailed technical implementations based on architected solutions.

Viewed as a subject matter expert in cloud technologies, implementation and support, the Senior Cloud Engineer will execute and/or design solutions and prototypes for proof of concept and implement solutions in production.  This includes keeping up-to-date on cloud technologies and tools, provide mentorship to other team members to strengthen cloud support, provide quality services and developing and maintaining a disaster recovery plan in relation to cloud services and systems within the IT Teams. (i.e. Infrastructure, Network, Security and Application)

Here is what you will be doing:

• Responsible to support the installation, configuration, security, operation, and maintenance of SQL Servers for new servers builds with special focus on Sql Managed Instance.
• Responsible for the development, execution and analysis of database expansions, re-organization and purging of Sql 2019
• Participates in the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the Data Warehouse and Analytics Data Hub
• Develops systems and processes to monitor data quality or integrity, diagnose problems and implement solutions.
• Provides expertise in the support of complex cross-platform database migrations and data governance activities.
• Responsible of SQL high availability options (Log Shipping, DB Mirroring, DB Clustering)
• Resolves and debugs complex reporting and analytic application problems
• Participates in the creation and maintenance of the Enterprise Data Strategy Plan
• Responsible for managing the SQL databases on Azure Cloud, SQL Always-On and Clustering.
• Provides knowledge and direction assistance to support a hybrid environment of on premise and cloud-based database environments.
• Configure, manage, monitor and maintain database server performance, health, availability and security.
• Provide feedback and recommendations to management for best course of action where needed
• Participates in problem analysis and resolution, for example tuning of sql query, deadlocks, data problems, access times, application recoveries, etc
• Performs software review, evaluation, recommendations, design and implementation for database management tools.
• Leads database disaster recovery design, implementation and monitoring.
• Patching, and database backup including testing and execution of SQL and Oracle database backup and recovery processes
• Provide guidance and reference to Tier 1 and Tier 2 Service Desk resources, as well as Tier 3 team members
• Ensures a consistent approach to executing work assignments in a timely and competent manner.
• Accountable for workload, tasks, initiatives, and service quality within assigned work and within direct scope of operations.
• Provides recommendations within direct scope of operations and within the Cloud and Platform Operations team.
• Recommends changes to products and services within direct scope of operations and within the Cloud and Platform Operations team.
• Shares best practices and provides coaching within their own team and other teams supporting cloud environments. Provides guidance and expertise to newer Cloud Engineers on best practices.
• Works closely with members of the product team, and other teams such as IT Operations, Cloud Centre of Excellence, Architecture and Security to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely.
• Collaborate with product team to deliver solutions using modern DevSecOps tools and best practices and take ownership of the build, release, and configuration management of applications.
• Works with a medium level of autonomy in setting objectives based on direction from a lead cloud engineer, principal cloud engineer, team lead or management.
• Makes decisions where results have major impact across the organization requiring sophisticated solutions and long-term correction.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience:

• Must have at least 5-7 years of proven working experience as a SQL Server(Azure and on-prem)
• Must have at least 2 year proven experience working experience Azure Synapse Analytics
• Must have extensive experience with SQL server 2012/14/16/19 on Windows and Linux operating system.
• Must have at least 2-4 years of experience managing Azure Sql dedicated pool and Server less.
• Must has experience on Azure Managed Instance and Azure  Sql database
• Demonstrated understanding of performance tuning and analysis in an Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Must have MS Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900T00), Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals(DP-900) and Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions(DP-300) certification
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
•  5 – 7 years of experience in System Support and Administration in Enterprise environment, working experience with Azure/AWS Cloud Services and supporting and managing Virtualization technologies, Container platforms, Storage Systems, Infrastructure monitoring and alerting technologies, high availability architecture in Azure/AWS Hybrid Cloud Technologies
• Industry certifications in Virtualization, Azure/AWS, Networking Technologies, and Office 365 certifications are an asset.
• Knowledge pertaining to operation and support of products and services operating in one cloud provider.
• Knowledge of IaaS and PaaS components leveraged to implement products and services operating in one cloud provider as well as in depth knowledge of the components directly related to operational duties.
• Knowledge of coding practices as it relates to Infrastructure as Code, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and using source control tools.
• Knowledge of team and industry best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support of products and services in the cloud provider.
• In-depth knowledge of security best practices as it relates to deployment, operations and support for products and services in the cloud provider.

• Ability to  ensure efficient processes are used for the build, release, and configuration management of applications.
• Ability to maintain in-depth knowledge of cloud technologies and tools for one provider.
• Ability to work closely with members of the product team, and other teams such as IT Operations, Cloud Centre of Excellence, Architecture and Security to ensure cloud services are implemented efficiently and securely.
• Ability to collaborate with product team to deliver solutions using modern DevSecOps tools and best practices.
